If you have dental insurance, chances are that you have a yearly maximum per person payable under your benefit package.  For most people, this runs on a calendar year basis.  Unfortunately, that yearly maximum, in a lot of cases, is the same as it was 30 years ago.  There’s not a whole lot you can do about that unless you purchased the plan.  What you can do, however, is to make sure that you plan in such a way that you don’t pay any more out of your pocket than you need to.  If you haven’t been to the dentist in quite some time, it’s to your benefit if you can go in December.  If you go in January instead, and need more than routine maintenance, you may end up paying more than you need to if you exceed your yearly limit.

If you have a tooth that is broken, take care of it now to take advantage of insurance benefits that may cover it this year so that you have more insurance money available in January for any extra work that may be required.

A little planning now can save you a lot of money later.
